The Truth About HPHT Clarity: Why We Only Sell VVS/VS Stones

For years, a myth has persisted in the lab-grown diamond industry: "HPHT diamonds are magnetic and full of dark metal spots." While this might be true for cheap, industrial-grade stones, it is completely false for modern, gem-quality HPHT diamonds produced by Kunlun Growth. Today, we want to explain exactly how we achieve VVS clarity and D-E color stability.

1. Solving the "Metal Inclusion" Issue

In older HPHT processes, the metal catalyst (iron/nickel) used to grow the diamond could sometimes get trapped inside the crystal, creating black spots or making the diamond slightly magnetic.

2. Why HPHT Looks "Crisper" Than CVD

Many jewelers notice that HPHT diamonds often look brighter or "crisper" than CVD. This comes down to crystal structure.

  • CVD grows in layers (like 3D printing), which can sometimes cause internal graining or "haziness."
  • HPHT grows under immense pressure (like natural diamonds deep in the earth), resulting in a denser, more uniform crystal lattice.

This is why a VVS2 HPHT diamond often looks cleaner than a VVS2 CVD diamond under magnification.

3. No Blue Nuance (Phosphorescence)

Another common fear is "Blue Nuance"—a bluish tint caused by excess boron. While some factories purposely add boron to speed up growth (making the stone look blue-ish), we prioritize pure white (D-E) color. Our formula is balanced to ensure the stone is colorless and inert. When you buy from us, you don't need to worry about your diamonds glowing in the dark unexpectedly.
